GAH! Midland...do I DV?

I just got a letter from Midland about an old CO (from 2004).  I am still within SOL and they are not reporting to the CBs.  Do I just pay them or should I send them a DV?  I really don't want them to report.  This is my LAST unpaid collection and I am tempted to just pay it, although I don't really want to spend them $$ right now ($776 settlement)

If they just sent you that initial letter (dunning letter), then I'd DV ASAP. I'd also save $$ for a PFD if it came to that, but you are way off.

Re: GAH! Midland...do I DV?

Yes, this is the initial dunning letter in which they state that I have 30 days to dispute the validity of this debt.  I am worried about being sued, although I have the money available (on a CC...not exactly what I want to do with it but it will be there in case).

I have read a few accounts about Midland on here and it seems like they have trouble validating...which is good for me.  But I also know they are very snaky.  I have all my CRs in hardcopy from this month, so if they do try to pull anything like reaging, I have proof.

IMO, and I'll get jumped on for saying this, but DV ASAP! They will post to your CR if you do not and it'll take forever and a day to get them to remove it.

And they may still post to your CR, but only after they validate it.

Not sure about DV. Midland is notorious for going all the way. If you decide to pay, I would ask that they write a letter to you saying that they will not report the account in any fashion, even as 'paid collection'.

Re: GAH! Midland...do I DV?

How would I go about getting it in writing that they will not report the account?  I will pay, but I do not want it on my CR, not even as 'paid in full' collection.  Thankfully this is the last possible collection against me.

I would DV, wait for the response, then send a PFD if you agree to it. If you sent a PFD now, and they don't accept it,  the 30 days may run out and they may report it anyway.
