Getting Married and Searching for new credit account

I will be getting married in Septemer and my finance and I are going to open a credit card account together.   He has great credit and I am still in the rebuilding stages (currently I have 675 FICO).   Does anyone know the best way to go about applying for a new card --- do we do a joint application or should I just go on as an authorized user?   I don't want to jeopardize getting the credit we/he deserves by appling incorrectly.

Welcome. I wouldn't waste you time on being an AU right now.

I also recommend keeping credit card accounts separate. What are your other two scores?

Re: Getting Married and Searching for new credit account

As the credit scoring will no longer consider AU accounts in the FICO score you do not want to be an authorized user. This will do nothing for your credit individually or as a couple. You want to be a joint account holder. Your scores are decent enough to be approved for a good card with you fiance. Also congratulations on the wedding. It is also good that the two of you are discussing your finances now and making decisions together. This will go a long way in building a solid marriage.

Personally...with your score I would not join credit accounts...you would be much better served building your own credit. Your score is fine and will improve.  You will be able to get many good cards on your own. No need to risk both files!
