Sometimes it is the spouse or family member and some people don't want to involve the police. In that case freeze your CRAs (mostly free, or about $10) and put an extended FA. Make your social less usable to them so they have no gain by using it.
They can still app for cel phones with out credit checks and bank accounts. So freezing is not completely full proof. I would also work on an extended FA. Any reason why you do not want to go to the police?
