This is funny and scary. I had a couple of HSBC accounts that went bad. They are going to fall off later this year so they are super old. I have gotten 2 pre qual card offers from them in the past week. This newest one takes the cake though...
"Your improved credit status qualifies you for this platinum offer.
Dear "hippychic"
Rebounding from a financial challenge takes patience and commitment and since you've demonstrated both, you deserve a card with a reserved credit line that treats you well.
It's time you had a credit card that matches your improved status. Please apply by calling (blah blah etc) and pay a $19 app fee and if for some reason you aren't approved we will refund your app fee."
So I have a couple of questions about this. Will attempting to open a new account with them resurect my old account and cause them to be more aggressive with collections? The old accounts were being handled by midland and i get settlement offers from them every so often so they already know where I live etc... Can they do anything bad to me if I open a new card? I could really use a positive TL and the terms aren't too bad for a sub prime. Interestingly enough, it has no "card name" like "orchard" or "aspire", it just says Platinum Card, but the disclosure says its from HSBCNV. Should I apply or toss?
