How do I get this Amazon card removed?

Hi,

I applied for the Amazon card only to cancel when I found out I had a $800 credit.  Since this credit was too small, I told the rep on the phone to cancel the card.  I check my report and I see that the card is listed.  I thought this was cancelled.  I know opening and closing an account can negatively affect credit.  I feel this is wrong because I instantly after approval canceled the card.  Can this type of account be removed?  If so how?  Thanks!

If this account is from 2005, then I wouldn't do anything because it is contributing to your AAoA ( average age of accounts ).   This is a 7+ year old account now.

Re: How do I get this Amazon card removed?

It is possible I did sign up for this card in 2005.  If this is so, I have carried a $0 balance all these years.  This still counts even though its already closed?  Can't believe I signed up for the same card twice, I though if I was already approved, wouldn't the sales rep know about this?

Thanks

FICO includes both open and closed cards in your average age of accounts ( AAoA ).   So this card is probably helping you because of its age.

I guess it's only helping the OP if his AAoA is less than 7 years.

Is Amazon reporting twice??  From the post above, that's one account from around 2005.  If you say you closed it immediately, it still would go on your report and be reported as a closed account.  And yes, closed accounts can remain on your report 10+ years from the date of closure are included in your AAoA.

For future reference, OP, don't be so quick to close GE cards. Sometimes they tend to be very "nice" on the credit limit increase side. That card easily could have been in the thousands by now. But it looks like it is helping your AAOA, so just leave it alone, I'd say.

Re: How do I get this Amazon card removed?

Is this possible to dispute to remove?, shows I oepned and closed on the same month.  I asked for a credit increase and was denied, the reason why I closed the account.  I didn't think this card would show up since I never got the card and cancelled right after.

Thanks
