I will say NCblondie, that I had the same issue as you, of not getting approved even for the so called easy cards. So I took matters into my own hands, and have 2 secured cards one from Wamu and one from BOA, and one unsecured from Citi (student card). My report and denials are mostly for paid tax liens, but I think most creditors want to see what I can do, so I had to add revolving accounts to my reports. Maybe you should try for one secured card, if you can BOA and Wamu are good.
