Check your state regulations. It's incredibly difficult to pull (and perhaps impossible) credit as a condition of employment in California.

It's definately legal in Georgia..I couldn't get a job at K-Mart, or Hibbet Sports (shoe store) due to that.
you need to have good credit to be a teller at a bank? in what state is this in. my ex of many years worked at a TD bank still is there and i know she has a slew of collections on her reports.

At my bank, it would be impossible with that kind of derogatory. We're looking for no current and recent derogatories. Maybe some small ones in the past are okay but def no collections. There's a certain standard for the financial industry.
I worked was hired at Bank One (right as they were merging with JPMorganChase) with over 10 collection accounts and a repossesion on my credit report. They definitely did a background check, but that was just for criminal. I was concerned about the credit stuff, but it never came up.

Some banks, not all. It depends on which bank and where, there's no general rule stating that every bank will pull your credit to see what your credit health looks like.
And anyone could start working at a bank and then rack up collections. You won't lose your job over that. I work with two people who have declared bankruptcy in the last year.

A while back in like 2009 I applied for a job at a local bank, passed their assesment with FLYING colors, but didn't get it due to my credit.
It's going to vary with every bank but in general you are going to need good credit for about any job in the financial industry.

Yeah that's why I'm trying to get myself out of this hole now.
