Loan that is invalidly aged, should I DV or dispute with CRA first?

Hello, I have a student loan that is a private loan, not federal. I believe they have reaged the account without justification, or in other words, I think they reset the date of last activity to a newer date when really nothing happened. So in reality it is beyond the 7 year limit for activity but yet it is still being reported to cra. My question is where do I start first. Should I send a letter to have the company try to validate the debt? or should I put in a dispute with the CRA first? Thanks
