I saw somewhere that paid CO's in New York are deleted after 5 years. Is this true?

Correct. NY's CRTP is 5 yrs on paid COs and CAs.
Thank you.
Legally, nothing is ever required to be deleted from your credit file. FCRA statutes, or state versions therof, only extend you what can be included in any credir report, not what is in your credit file.
They may no longer be permitted to routinely include in any CR they issue after 5-years the OC or CA reporting.
But they can remain that prior reporting in your credit file, and are not subject to credit reporting restirctions beyond 5 years if the requestor meets the exemption requriements of FCRA 605(b).
More specifically, if they request your CR for evaluation of a request for credit or insurance that has a principal balance of $150.000 or above, it is no longer a prohibited reporting in your credit report.
No state version of the fed FCRA or FDCPA ever mandates credit file deletion of anything.
