Paid Off but Sent to Collections

I canceled my Comcast service at the beginning of the year. I believe it was around March. After two weeks of cancelling Comcast they sent my bill to collections. Though they still were accepting payments from me in the store so I continued to do that until my bill was paid off. I have a receipt with my balance being zero, but I recently saw on Credit Karma that now I have a new collections account, but I paid Comcast off two weeks ago.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Re: Paid Off but Sent to Collections

The issue controlling whether or not a collection can be reported is whether the debt collector had legitimate collection authority at some point in time when the debt was still delinquent.

It is not whether the debt was paid prior to the reporting date.

While a debt collector will normally not initially report after the debt is paid, there is no prohibition against doing so.

Contact the debt collector and seek a good-will deletion.
