Paying a collection

If I pay a collection account that hasn’t been reported by a new owner of the debt, will it and if it does hurt my credit score. how bad of a hit will it be?

Re: Paying a collection

It all depends if you get them to agree not to report if you pay immediately then you will have it not hit. If however you just pay it there is the chance that they could report it as paid 0 balance and you're stuck with it for 7 years. Call them and negotiate asap. Dv

Re: Paying a collection

It depends if you have any other delinquent or derogatory accounts on your reports. If you have none and this baddie did report, it could ding anywhere between 40 and 90 points. It also depends on what "bucket" you are in.

In you already have baddies on your reports, the loss of points could be less.

Every profile is different..We can't be exactly sure.
