Probably asked. Can you have a new collection for a deleted account?

Lets say a dispute removed an old negative med account last year. Gone! But now there is a collection for an account that is not there (bal still remaining). Can they do this even though the dispute removed the old med account?

Is this hypothetical or real?
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Real. On the CR the listing says the name of the collection agency then below to the right it says original creditor in the same listing. But the original creditors account was disputed and deleted before this. Then this collection appeared with out the original creditors account on the CR. I don't know to much about the laws of collections. If they sell the account to the collection company does that then give them ownership to do this? Thanks.

For example.
-----------------------------------------
Before
Original account owner "123COMPANY"
30,60,90 late, Sent for collection

Collection company "CollectRUs123"
Original Creditor "123COMPANY"
-----------------------------------------
A bit later after a disputes

Both were deleted due to errors in address, ect.
-----------------------------------------
Now Collection company "We buy uncollected debt5678"
Original Creditor "123COMPANY"

They sold the collection to someone else and it is now on the CR with out the original account owner showing it ever existed.

So I guess I am asking if they can put a collection with out the original account showing? Thank you for your time.
