Question about Paid Civil Judgement

I pulled DH's credit report today and he has two Paid Civil Judgements and one Civil Judgement on his report.  These are from before we were married.  How can I figure out what they are for?  Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about Paid Civil Judgement

sassy, judgements are filed in the county the debt originated, OR where you reside.

The only way I know how to find out what all that is for, is to go down to county courthouse, and take a CR report with you, showing the full case #. They can pull it for you, and you can even buy a copy of it, if you'd like.

Looks like he's paid 2 out of the 3 judgments to me.

Yes you will have to go to the court house. Prothonotaries office probably. That's where I had to go for my DH's. You may even be able to call and find out. I did and they told me who had the judgements. I went down to get a copy to send to the CRA.

Re: Question about Paid Civil Judgement

I guess I'll try calling - I searched by case number and by his name and I couldn't find anything that matched.

Re: Question about Paid Civil Judgement

If you go down to the court house and can't find any information, then you might want to DV or dispute the two paid ones. Although if they are over 7 years, you should be able to have them removed.

Also, on the 3rd Unpaid Judgment, you'll need to pay that -- unless it's past your state's SOL (in some states the plaintiff can renew the judgment for additional years) -- but if it is within the SOL, when you contact the CA or the OC about paying off the debt, you MUST demand that they dismiss the lawsuit upon receiving all the money (a settlement amount or the full balance). If this happens, then you can have the judgment vacated (again more paperwork with the court) and it'll be off your DH's CR.

Those last two steps are critical for the best credit repair.
