Questions regarding the CRA reporting Collection agency and Original Creditor Accounts

A friend and I were having a discussion on this topic and I am under the impression that if a collection agency is collecting on behalf of the original creditor, then they cannot report it to the CRA because that would be double reporting. My friend says otherwise. Can anyone confirm this.

Both the OC and the CA can report to the bureau's.  If you end up with a judgement, that can add a third derogatory item on your report for the same original debt.

Re: Questions regarding the CRA reporting Collection agency and Original Creditor Accounts

The reporting of an original creditor is on the consumer's performance under their contract with them.

Once delinquent, if a debt collector is assigned collection authority, their reporting is of their authority and efforts to collect on a delinquent debt.

It is essentially an extension of the payment history profile reported by the creditor, and reflects continued delinquency.

It is not double reporting, and more than reporting by a creditor of a charge-off after prior reporting of monthly delinquencies, or the showing of a judgment on the same debt that has also been reported by a creditor and/or debt collector.

Multiple showings of various methods and persons involved in the ultimate effort to obtain payment of a debt is totally acceptable credit reporting.
