Quitting My CCCS?

I enrolled with a CCCS a few years ago due to high CC bills, multiple payday loans and some collections. I've since paid everything off except for 2 accts. My total monthly payments to the CCCS is only $250 now as opposed to $850 when I started. Is it better at this point to quit the service and continue on my own? Main reason is that I have only a few few active tradelines right now and I'm not supposed to obtain more credit until the CCCS process is complete. I just started looking at my credit reports and am in the 570's for all three CRA's (FAKO's). I want to apply for a few CC's to increase my good tradelines but am hindered by the CCCS in this respect. Is it time to go on my own?

Thanks,

Re: Quitting My CCCS?

Be prepared to go back to your original interest rate.  Is it worth that?   I think you're better off hitting the remaining debt hard...THEN look into additional credit.

Re: Quitting My CCCS?

Hi, Atlas there was an agreement signed originally which unfortunatly I can't locate right now. However, I spoke with the receptionist earlier today and she said that I could quit the service at any time without any penalties or negative consequences. The service has been very good and I paid down over $8000 worth of debt in the last 1 1/2 years. I just want to get on with my credit rehabilitation and at this point, I think that by obtaining some new tradelines, that process would move a little quicker. My only concern is that the main issue with my credit is 8 medical collection accounts (  all with the same CA) which are anywhere from 3 to 4 years old that I didn't even know I had till I saw my Credit reports. All these accounts were supposed to be covered by my insurance at the time. None of these were included in the CCCS payment plan because like I said I was unaware of these. Don't know if I should get the collections negotiated by the CCCS or just handle that myself.

Fish, the accounts that are left with CCCS are:
Providian/WAMU CC - Balance $3507 (originally $5100)
BCR (CA) Cingular Cell Phone - Balance$855 (original $1123) They recently sent me a settlement offer for $357
So your saying WAMU can add interest back on?

Thanks,

Re: Quitting My CCCS?

You are allowed to pay more towards your debt while enrolled in the CCCS. Just tell your counselor which debt you want it applied to. A note about the settlement offer -  careful! Make sure they will delete the account once it is paid.

Good luck and GOOD JOB getting your debts paid!

Re: Quitting My CCCS?

I would contact them and try to pay more...but stay with them.  Not getting new credit for a few months is not necessarily a bad thing...I have been in a debt management plan for over 3 years, 5 months to go...and not using/getting credit  has been a great thing...learned a lot.  Not saying when I am done I won't get any, but I have learned my lesson, and will handle it responsibly.  I wouldn't have learned that in only a couple of months.
