Ratings question

I know when an account is a collection, it shows an 09 rating.  When I pay that colleciton off, should that rating stay as an 09?  I assumed that the 09 rating is what the FICO system was reading to reflect into my score, but even after I paid off a collection, the 09 rating is still there.  Should I dispute this to have the rating changed or removed?  If it still shows as an 09 after I pay it off, is that rating hurting my score?  Thanks!
