Removing fraud alerts on credit reports?

I called equifax and they said that I needed to send a copy of my Driver's license and Social Security card to:

Is this legit?

What do I need to do to remove a fraud alert from Experian?

None of the CRAs will remove a fraud alert from your CR until they receive a letter stating for it to be removed and complete ID!!!!!   You can mail it or fax it.

For Equifax, I faxed a letter to 888-826-0573 indicating that I want it off of my report and that I never requested it.  I attached a copy of my driver's license, social security card and the page of my credit report that listed the fraud alert.  It took a few days (maybe a week...can't remember), and then it was removed.
