Could someone explain the SOL to me. I want to make sure I understand that right, and see if it pertains to anything I have. Thanks

After the statute of limitation, they creditor cannot  sue you. But you still owe the money! I got my charge off in North Carolina, so after 3 years, they could not sue me. But it continued to screw up my credit, so i paid it. 
 
I think however, that the time may start over everytime you reaffirm that you owe the debt (or make a payment). So, basically, you have to ignore the debt for the whole time for the SOL to run out. Creditors may try to get you to make small payments e.g. $25, because this may start over the SOL. Maybe this link will help:
