Should I trust promise to delete from IC Systems?

IC Systems has placed a collection on my report for AT&T cell phone service in the amount of $280.20. I spoke with one of their representatives today and asked if I could get this removed from my credit report if I paid it. The representative told me that they would report the balance as being paid within a few days and then within 30 days request that the item be deleted entirely. She said they cannot provide me a letter to that effect in advance, that I will have to make the payment first and then they will send me a letter stating they will delete the item. My question -- should I trust that this will happen?

No, I wouldn't trust anything a collection agency won't put in writing.

But if the amount is correct and it is legitimate I'd pay it. If sure won't go away if you don't pay it.
