Three OCs accepted payment, now what??

I called this morning about 3 accounts that I have in Collections. Since I'm working within a short timeframe, I called the 3 OCs, and they all 3 accepted payments for the accounts! (Yay!) I paid them all over the phone with my check card, and got confirmation numbers.

So, now I need to know...

1. Do I call the CA and tell them that the debts have been paid through the OC?

2. Can I (as soon as the payments clear) go ahead and dispute the reporting by the CAs since the debt was paid through the OC? How exactly does that work? Will the reporting by the CA be completely removed from my report since I paid the OC?

Hmm, You didn't get anything in writing from the OC that they would have it taken off your report or contact the CA on your behalf??  I would be interested to see what the pro's have to say here as well.

Re: Three OCs accepted payment, now what??

Phew. I'll give you my input.

Firstly, the OC will notify the CA that you have paid, and the CA will/should mark it as 'paid collection'. However they will not delete the collection items(s) from your cr. Only mark it as paid.

A 'paid collection' is ALMOST as bad as the collection itself! And will remain on your cr for 7 years.

Oh how I wish you would have asked for opinions/advice before you did what you did.

There is a well known tactic that many of us have used called PFD(pay for delete). This is ALWAYS done BEFORE any payment is made. It puts you in a strong negotiating stance with the OC to pay in full, if and only if they instruct the CA to delete the collection record completely off of your account.

But there's still hope. You can write GW(GoodWill) letters, asking them to remove the baddie. They may or they may not. Unfortunately, they are not required to do so.

Hope that helps. And good luck to you. Smiley Happy

Sylvia - I was denied PFD on these 3 accounts, as well as 1 other one.

I wish you didn't pay the oc.. Did you get anything in writing from the oc that says they will contact ca and demand deletion? I paid an oc and all it did was turn an unpaid collection into a "paid" collection....There is hope however, i dv'd the ca and they took it off of 2 reports so far...but it was a long, hard battle between me, the oc and the ca...good luck
