I would like to ask for advice about what I need to do with an unauthorize inquiry on my Equifax by Lexisnexis.
I am torn between calling lexisnexis and asking them to remove the inquiry as I have no bussiness with them whatsoever, or dispute the inquiry with Equifax.
What do you fellow FICOer think is the best option.
Is it a HP or SP? I don't think LexisNexis is in the lending business.
Any idea as to why it was added?
It's a hard pull. I don't know the reason.
They might be trying to soft me and mistakenly use a hard code.
Could be my employer, but that would be creepy.
If you have initiated no business with them, the only permissible pupose would be to offer you a firm, unsolicted, promotional offer for credit or insurance, which is required by statute to be excluded from your credit report (i.e., a "soft" pull).
However, they are a business, and not a creditor, so an offer for credit does not appear likely.
Only the CRA knows for sure what their stated permissible purpose was.
You could send them a request under FCRA 609(A)(1) for a copy of their stated permissible purpose before pursuing further.
Alternately, you could send the CRA a dispute, with statement that you know of no permissible purpose, and have intitiated no request for business or credit from them.
Dont send a dispute to LexisNexis, as disputes over inquiries are exempted from the direct dispute process.
Lexisnexus screens tenants for some apartment complexes ... did you by chance fill out an application for an apartment recently?
Robert
Thanks. I think dispoting this inquiry with Equifax will be the way to go as you mentioned.
Would it be possible to do this dispute through myFICO scorewatch account?
Yes! I did rent a new apartment around the time the inquiry was made.
Now. I can rest my case. Thanks guys.
This type of inquiries don't affect your FICO scores, so I wouldn't worry about it
Lexisnexus does hard pulls, so yes it would affect the FICO score ... ?

Have you checked your FICO score report?
