Utility Collection

Sorry I won't post anymore questions today I promise haha!
I have a couple collections listed on my reports in the following format.  They are utilities/old cell phones/etc so I guess that's why they go under "collections" instead of the accounts tab on all my myfico reports.

Basically I'm looking to go for a PFD by going through the company they're owed to, but I don't know if I need to include a section in the PFD letter stating that I need a copy of the letter they'll send the CA telling them the debt has been satisfied and needs to be deleted by them.  I'm just not quite clear on who's REALLY reporting the debt/in charge of it I guess?  I've gotten CPS to send me a bill with my acct number on it since I didn't even have that info, and they included a slip to pay them directly with an address for their PO Box.  I take that as a good sign in that they're willing to accept payment through them at least?

Any advice would be great.

It's not near SOL either, and it's really just something I need to take care of regardless since they're the only electric company in town!  (I also intend to make sure to get something in writing saying that once I satisfy the debt I'll be able to open service with them again.)

Re: Utility Collection

You need to pfd the ca not the electric co! After it is paid you will have a reciept so in turn you can have electric established in your name again..

Re: Utility Collection

The electric company already sent me all the info to pay them directly, just nothing commiting to delete since I hadn't asked for that I'd just requested my previous bills.  Usually people recommend going through the OC whenever possible - any reason I should do otherwise here?

Because the ca owns the bill now and onlly they have the "power" to delete...I learned the hard way..

Re: Utility Collection

OH!  That makes sense, so is that the difference between "Collection Accounts" on the accounts tab, and Collections listed under the collections tab?

Re: Utility Collection

These guys didn't BUY my debt though, they were just hired to collect it though - does that make any difference?

Re: Utility Collection

Yes it does make a difference in most cases! If the electric company said to pay them, you pay them. If the electric company is reporting you, ask them if they will remove or delete the account from the bureaus; however, if the ca is reporting you, they should remove their account from the bureau once they receive notice from the electric company that the account has been paid to them. If you pay attention, you will notice that there is an account number for the electric company, and the ca has its own acc. number. If I am correct, they can't continue to report if you don't pay the debt under their account #.

Remember to ask the electric company to remove from the bureaus if they are reporting, and get that in writing if possible. I would avoid the ca at all cost if possible. Send PFD only if they own the debt, and the oc is refusing to accept payment. I have been acting on this same situation myself, and the first thing I ask is "who owns this debt"? Sometimes the oc has even tried to talk me into sending the payment to the ca, but they reluctantly told me, the account would be pulled back from ca once I paid them. See, the oc will have to pay the ca a fee if you paid them directly, and ca was assigned the debt.

Re: Utility Collection

Well the way the report phrases it under the collections tab it says the CA has been hired to collect for the Util Company - so to my understanding that would mean the Util company owns it still, correct?
