My wife pulled a copy of her credit report a couple months ago and she noticed a collection entry from Verizon. She used to have her own phone line at her parents house years back and they cancelled the service last year. Apparently her mom never paid the last bill (claims she never got notice). It was for around $100. My wife called Verizon and they could not do anything and they put her through to someone else (I assume it was still being held with Verizon and not an outside agency). My wife went ahead and paid it since we believe this was a valid debt that her mom dropped the ball on. Of course this is still going to show on her credit report and I wondered if there was a way to get Verizon to remove this. What would be the best approach in a case like this? A phone call? Letter? Both? Neither? Thanks for any help!
