I don't understand why a dispute would lower your score as nothing has been changed, only a request for an investigation.

Is it their way of punishing you for taking their time?

They reason for the score decrease...is that the account is temporarily taken out of calculation...which in turns..lowers your credit history..which lowers your scores...companies have to cease activity on an account while in dispute..it's part of the rules...

Re: does disputing items on your credit reports drop your score?

It changes your score because while it's in dispute, it's taken out of the scoring equation. It's actually a big help for people who have inaccurate info on their CR - it takes away the punishment for an alleged mistake while it's being investigated.
However, the reverse can also be true - if you have a giant nasty collection or CO and you dispute it, your score can take a leap while it's being investigated.

Just want to add, not all accounts are taken out of the scoring formula while in dispute.

As far as I know, collections are NOT removed from scoring while in dispute.

Sometimes you take a score drop, sometimes you get a score hike while in dispute.

I didnt know this. I thought while disputing, the account in question was taken off the CR which would remove it from scoring???
Sidewinder, could you come live with me for a month or so to 'homeschool' me on this credit repair? Smiley Happy
