lack of activity hurts score?

I sent out four PFD letters out last week.  I figured it was best to get rid of the bad accounts all together and pay off my debt.  But, I read a news article today that says that a FICO score won't even compute if you don't have any activity for six months.  Can anybody verify that?  2 of the 4 PFDs I sent were for accounts that I've had in the last 7 months.  If those accounts get deleted my reports won't actually show any activity for 9 months.  Could I actually hurt my score by getting the accounts removed completely?

Re: lack of activity hurts score?

Do you have any open credit cards that have no balance?  If so, go buy something for $5 on a couple of them.

Voila, you have activity!

Re: lack of activity hurts score?

I have no new credit in over 5 years and started paying off old bad
debt and my scores have jumped up 45 - 80 points in the past several
months, if your Collections get removed I would think that would be
activity on your report and your scores should go up then, do as these
experts say here and keep a minumum 1 - 9% utilization on a credit card,
even if you just get a secure card or two that reports to the CR'S your scores
will go up..
