multiple revolving cc accounts?

Now that I have pulled my credit report -- I am seeing 33 revolving accounts -- 13 active.  Of the 13, I have 5 of them that are old, old department store accounts that have been inactive for years.  is it hurting my credit score to have these open -- even though there is no balance and no activity?

is it smarter to cancel all of these excess cards (Sears, Target, Macys etc) or is it better to leave them on since they show I have credit and do not use it?  I am desparate to clean up my credit score so I want to do the best option.  thanks.

Re: multiple revolving cc accounts?

CC's in good standing help the average age of all your revolving accounts.

And if they are still open, you may want to put something on them. Doesn't have to be much, just something. Then PIF when the statement comes. It may actually help your scores go up a little.
