old collection account

I recieved a letter from a CA for a debt that is at lease 5 years old.(SOL in IL is 5 years). I was going to send the DV letter, but I'm afraid that any communication with the CA will result in it showing up on the CR. They are showing up in the Inquiries section of the CR (2X in last year), but no where else. Should I go ahead and send the DV letter, or what would happen if I just ignore it? can it be put back on the CR?

Re: old collection account

If you are SURE that sol is 5 yrs. and can hold out- may be better to let it drop off. I know it doesn't sound like the moral and ethical thing to do- but unless you get a PFD in writing before you send payment you might be better just waiting...

Wait a minute. You said it wasn't even showing. Just keep an eye out cuz sometimes CA's will put stuff on...
