Dekrist, tell that lazy a$$ collection agency to immediately respond to the dispute as "paid." He's probably thinking if he doesn't respond in 30 days to the dispute, then the credit bureau has to delete it.  That's what is supposed to happen, but hey, guess what, the credit bureaus screw up sometimes!  They could just as easily report it as "verified" and then you're stuck.  Tell the collector he must report it correctly or you will notify the Federal Trade Commission and the State Attorney General.
