should DOFD be after date closed???

I was just reviewing my CR for the hundredth time Smiley Happy  I have a paid charged off cc I am looking to find someway to have deleted.      It says DOFD 12/2002    Date closed  06/2002     Does that make sense for the DOFD to be before the date closed?    Is this anything I should be concerned about?

Thanks!

Re: should DOFD be after date closed???

did they close you account and then you were left w/a balance that you quite paying on? this could cause the dofd to be later than when the account was reported as closed.

Re: should DOFD be after date closed???

I went back and looked at my EQ report just now.   The payment history shows:

DOFD 12/02      date closed   06/2002

30 days 8/01       60 days 9/01
30 days 5/02    60 days 6/02    90 days 7/02     120 days 8/02     120 days 9/02    90 days 10/02
30 days 1/03    60 days 2/03      90 days 3/03
120 days 4/03    120 days 5/03     120 days 6/03

Evidently I was skipping around payments.   I'm sorry to say I didn't keep good records.   Smiley Sad

I can't figure it out.........I would disput it  with all CRAs that are reporting & see what comes back.........if it is verified   you can then send the OC letter.......that will give you all the info that you need.

Re: should DOFD be after date closed???

I think I see exactly what happened.

You were late several times, they closed the account in June of 02.  Then you were late a couple more times, made a payment, and then in Nov of 02 you caught up your payments.  Then in Jan 03 you were 30 days late again for your Dec payment.  That puts your Date of First Delinq at 12-02.  That's the day they said enough, we're sending this to collections.

Had you not caught that account up in Dec Nov of 02 your DOFD would have been May of 02.

Hope that helps.

Van

Edited to change Dec to Nov, my mistake.

There's also something else perverse here (though likely entirely accurate):

While I obviously don't know your actual payment history, I expect that a partial payment of the outstanding delinquent balance 11/02 resulted in their "recycling" of the balance to a current status. (Some creditors will bring an account to a current status if payments on the delinquent balance have been made for 3 months in succession, which the reported payment trend indicates was the case.) Had they not granted that courtesy your DOFD would be 4/02 (date on which you first fell delinquent vs the 5/02 30 day reporting).
