verizon woes...

I had home phone service through verizon back in 2004.  I moved and cancelled it.

I discovered recently that there was a $68 charge that went in to collections.

I can pay it directly to verizon to remove it from collections and show paid in full.

I have tried everything I can imagine to get this removed completely PFD, GW, Planet Feedback etc. etc. etc.

I have been talking with the 'executive advocacy' department for a few days and escalated up there as far as i can go but they are still adamant they will not remove the TL completely.  they will just show it as paid in full.  I am afraid it will still show the negative history.

any suggestions?  should I just pay it so it at least doesn't show in collections status anymore?

Re: verizon woes...

I have been seeing that Cell Phone SOL is 2 years by federal rules.

*Edit: woops, didn't realize it was home service. Haven't really thought about landlines much lately except for cursing that I am required to pay for one to get DSL...

Re: verizon woes...

I take it that Verizon is the one reporting. It is up to you weather you pay or not. I can say that FICO treats paid & unpaid collections as the same!

If it were me I would just wait it out. I don't see them filing suit.....but they can.

I know that cell phones SOL is 2 years but I don't know about home phone service.

IMO  this is a gray area for me......some states concider this as an open account like a CC. Other states might go by promissary note.

Re: verizon woes...

This is the status right now as it shows up on my credit reports (TrueCredit)

I got no problem paying the 68 bucks and I would have in the first place if i had known about it!

Is it worth the hassle to keep trying to get this removed?  they are adamant it won't be removed but will reflect paid in full... will that help my score?

I THINK the DOLA should read 12/04

SOL in Texas is 4 years.  what advantage does that give me?

Thanks so much for all your help!

Re: verizon woes...

I have one of those, too. Verizon isn't going to remove it, no matter what.

If you pay it, your credit score isn't going to change. But if you apply for a mortgage or if you apply for a personal loan through a credit union, they are going to do a manual review. They will probably tell you that you have to pay it before they will give you a loan.

So it's up to you. Pay it and clear your conscience, or leave it be until it ages off.
