$8000 Tax credit question again but a little different ! ! ! !

How does the IRS know if you have purchased a home in the past three years or not? The reason I ask is because my wife purchased a small used mobile home before we were married and I don't recall exactly if it was in the last three years or not. Also the used mobile home was not done as a mortgage but a simple interest loan through a local bank. The loan was not tax deductible so it was never used as a tax write off either. Does this matter? What qualifies as a past home purchase?

I agree, ask your CPA, but mine and my lender both told me that the date the deed was transferred to the new owner starts the 3 year clock....did I get wrong info?
