Re: American General

I think it is Equifax, I had asked about scoring etc and the manager told me they have an internal scoring system of A-F I think, so you would be put into one of those categories based on score, she did not break it down. I had a small loan with them and my scores were in the 590's-610's, rate was not bad.

Fico doesn't like loans from companies like them so unless your scores are too low to get a bank loan I would stay away from them

Re: American General

Why not they are a financial institution?

Because lenders like American General are for people who have bad credit and can't get approved for a loan from their bank.  Yes people with good credit can use them but why would you if you could for example borrow 3,000 from your bank at say 7% instead 23% from American General. They charge interest rates near and above 20% and make you use collateral to secure the loan. Fico considers place like these as if you were buying products from fingerhut. Experian doesn't care if you pay the loan timely, they dont like them period

they pull experian usually.  Not sure what scores they look for.  I used them because I had a bankruptcy on my credit report so I  couldn't get a regular loan.  When I started my credit cleanup thats when I found out that the cb's don't like loan companies like them.  they also don't like those payday loan co either. Now all my scores are above 760 but I still get the message that the Amer Gen loan is hurting my scores
