Did you place a freeze on his report?  If so then...

Is a freeze the same thing as opting out? I feel like what I did was called opting out.

His score is at 673 here on myfico.  However, I have just paid off one of the cards and paid down the other by about 1/3 so I'm hoping to see a bit of an improvement when they show up here.  I also intend to have the other card paid down as quickly as possible for continued improvement. And, I am going to try to remove an old card we had charged off, from his reports, since he was only AU.  Hoping that is successful and gives him a boost too.  If we can get him up to 700, I'd feel a lot more comfortable apping for new cards!

I got both my BCE and Discover It with scores similar to his. I got my freedom when my scores were lower than his (660). He surely qualifies for plenty of cards esp when you pay down the utility. I pretty much qualifed for every card in my sig with a sub 700 score. If you can qualify for cards with no income and lower scores I'm sure he could qualify as well.

Re: Are AU cards enough?

If I we had a completely clean report otherwise, I'd probably just go for it. But, we have a 4.5 yr old foreclosure on our records too. So, I'd like to get everything else looking as good as possible to try to compensate Smiley Wink

I have not gotten any cards recently. The two cards he is AU on, we have had for around 13 years. (Back when our scores were mid-700s without trying).

I figure, I'll give it a few months to pay down the one card balance some more and then give it a go. Smiley Happy

https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t is where you can both "opt out" and "opt in".
