I joined the credit union through my employer on a Friday. Applied for refinancing of my auto loan the following Monday and the paperwork was completed and check mailed the next day on Tuesday. My payment dropped by a couple hundred buckaroos per month. It was the best thing I ever did.
I once read somewhere (can't find it now) that having anything from a credit union on your credit report is good for your score. I believe it because one of my scores jumped almost 30 points once that loan hit my report - even before the old loan showed as closed.
