We closed on our first home today. We did a VA loan and have less than perfect credit (3 year old BK). It took about 4 weeks to close, seller paid all of our closing costs and pre-paids ($4800) and we got all of our earnest money back with the keys 
. Everything went very smooth during the whole process, underwriting took exactly 48 hours as promised and the only conditions were 2 utility bills to prove that we live at our current address. Appraisal went well, it appraised for a little bit more than the purchase price. We had a great loan officer who responded within in minutes when we e-mailed him with questions. Everyone told us we should not do a VA loan, they are so difficult etc and some lenders don't like doing them but we had a very good experience.
