Mike, the closing ordeal or the whole mortgage process?
As for the closing, I grabbed the extra money they asked for and drove to the closing. I met my lawyer there (thank god for pre paid legal) and he reviewed each doc before I signed it. The closing agent went over all the numbers and I signed what had to be hundreds of papers .
Because my lawyer reviewed every thing before I signed I was able to get it all done in a little under 2 hours. After signing everything, may lawyer left and they had me wait in the conference room while they scanned all my signed docs and place them on a CD (also allowing the lenders' wired funds to show I believe she mentioned). About 20 minutes or so later, they came back with my packet of papers (on CD), the extra docs my lawyer said they needed to provide me, my keys and my gate remotes. They also provided me with some surveys to fill out there and some to fill out later then they sent me on my way.
Sounds like quite the process! I've never experienced it but hopefully soon enough.
What about the mortgage process? Any interesting stories there or was it pretty smooth sailing?
Congrats.

Have fun moving! I will be right there with you next week
The mortgage process was a stressful nightmare due to my LO and the UW to a lesser extent.
As far as the UW went, she asked for some off the wall things like proof a collection that was removed from my report was paid or proof that a fraudulent acct removed was actually found fraudulent by the company and removed by them. The worst part was her asking for more and more conditions last minute that could have been asked for upfront. She even sent my file to quality assurance because she thought I some how manipulated my scores when they were going up.
My LO would ask for the same things over and over, he had a bit of a temper at times, and was not well informed about credit improvement. He also would forget to ask me for things and I felt like I had to work harder then him in the whole process.
