Fact or Fiction

My sister is trying to refinance.  She thinks she has a judgment since one used to appear on her credit report and it dropped off recently (she doesnt know when since she didnt get her reports on a regular basis).  If she had a judgment against her, and it used to show up, why all of a sudden did it stop?  How will she be able to search and see before trying to refinance?

Re: Fact or Fiction

She needs to pull her CR from all 3 CBs.  She can get 1 CR from each for free once a year.

Judgments can remain for 7 years from the date filed.

She already has. That is how she knows it is no longer there.  We are in NC and judgments can remain for 10 years.

MrsQ,

She should check her County's website.  If it was filed they would have a record of it.  Hope this helps.

Re: Fact or Fiction

Contact the conciliation court in your state to see if they have a record of it. It is my understanding that a judgment will show up in the title search even if it has dropped off your credit. It will have to be satisfied before the bank will fund your loan.
