I first visited my home in June 2011. Once I applied for a mortgage loan, they told me 45 days and it took 44 (although it felt like an eternity).

Mortgage pre-approval: July 5

House under contract: July 18

Inspection: July 22ish

Offer/counters: Early August

Closing: August 31

Possession: September 1

Time since homeowner's bliss settled in: 80 days

I put a contract on my custom built home June 2, 2011 with a slated close date of October 1st.  Around the middle of September we learned that the home was built on two lots and the builder did not have the city consolidate the lots so no title could be ordered.  Builder is still working this lot issue out.  My loan approval expires on November 28, 2011 so I am gearing up for my 3rd credit loan pull in a few days and have no clue when the lot consolidation will be complete.  I called the surveyor's office and one of the customer service representatives told me if might take a couple months.  The past 6 months has been one of the most stressful periods of my life.  I have contiplated just saying to hell with this particular house but I have invested so much time, energy, emotions and cash into this property that I can't walk away.  Also it appraised for $46k more than I offered for it.  Please send me closing soon vibes because I need them right about now.
