As far as the hardship letter, I don;t have an example but they just want you to put down what circumstances have caused you to need the modification to weed out people looking for a handout. they want to make sure that people who have been irresponsible or want a handout do not interfere with people who really need the help.

Also they want a convincing explanation of why this modification really will work for the long term. Earlier today I saw a news item that about half the people who got loans revised to lower their payments in the first half of 2008 have already defaulted on their reduced payments, and I am sure the bankers already know this. So to original poster, you need to make a case that you are unlikely to end up in such a situation.
