Help with Loan Docs

Hi everyone,

My mortgate lender sent me a loan application with GFE with an amount much larger than what I need. I asked them to change to the exact amount that I need but they did not do it nor did they explain why - why they did not want to change it and what that amount stood for.  Does the loan amount on the application carry any legal obligation that I must take it once I signed the form?

Please help. Thank you.

Re: Help with Loan Docs

Your mortgage lender is required by law to give you a estimate of closing costs.  The actual loan amount and costs will be determined later.  The loan amount shown on your loan app doesn't legally bind you in any way.  Once the initial GFE is generated it may be revised at a later date but it is not required IME.
