I am trying to get an FHA loan. My score is at 650. with 2 public records that are 5 years old.
How can I get rid off my public records? Do they weight in my credit score calculation?
is this a federal or a state lien? for federal liens there is a fresh start program if you google it, the instructions are pretty easy and they will remove it. If it is a state lien it can prove pretty difficult. Some states are easier than others. I DID have a state of mississippi tax lien removed. I wrote the attorney general and any other government official I could think of. Then when looking at the MS tax lien web page it specifically stated "you can send your release of lien paperwork to the credit agency and ask them to remove it". I copied the web page, attached the lien release and wrote a letter to TU and they just removed it. I read about someone else writing to the comptroller and getter hers released. I think SC has a program where they release them.....
Thnaks..The state is Georgia.
Print the department of renvenue page on tax liens. highlight the area where it says that they don't tell the credit bureau how long to keep it on your report and ask for it to be removed.....attach the lien cancellation letter.... it may work. if not write to everyone and their brother asking for it to be withdrawn.
I have 2 paid tax liens from Georgia on my CR. I was able to close on my house with the liens since they were marked paid. Please update the thread on if you are able to get them removed.

"Withdrawn" or "Extinguished" are the KEY words you need in a letter from your state. They mean the same thing. Im still trying to do that myself...good luck to you!
Vacated is another good word to get in a letter or court document. It means it never existed!
