One thing I like about Chase. If you have extra principal paid onto the loan, they'll let you use that to apply toward a payment. I've done it. I find their handling of my loan to be good. Cust. Service is good.
Learn from MY lesson. If you're calling a local bank ask their mortgage person HOW LONG they've been with the company. I used a new girl and she totally BLEW a house for us. She was a LEMON. didn't communicate, I had to complain to her boss to get her to return a call.
Also try your local credit unions or NASA CU. They have decent interest rates and easy paperwork. I financed through my CU last year and got the best rate available at the time, with a mid-FICO of 670. Now, their rates seem to be at 4.875%.
Some realtors won't even show houses right now until you've been preapproved, so take care of that ASAP.
