Job and Mortgage

So i have a friend who is a realtor. She says that for people to qualify for a mortgage they need to work at their job for about 2 years. Is this true?

I ask because right now im tempted to look for a new job, i have been at my current one for 2 years, if i look for a new job now and secure one before leaving my current one. Will this affect me on obtaining a mortgage? Currently might be getting pre-qualified first then looking for a home in like april 2015.

Also do pre-qualifying for a mortgage is that a HP or SP?

Re: Job and Mortgage

Would your job be in the same field? Better pay/title? If so, from what I'm told a job change won't hurt you.

Re: Job and Mortgage

If you are still working retail but working at another company, it is considered the same 'field' so it won't impact you negatively.

Re: Job and Mortgage

Our Loan officer said if u go FHA dosnet matter as long as you have had a job for two years. She said if its regular loan then you must stay in same field.
