You're confusing "median" with "mode". The "mode" is the value that occurs most often. The "median" is the value that is halfway down the list when the values are listed in value order. As you noted at the end, though, for a set of 3 values, the median and mode are always the same value.
Correction: if no values are repeated, there is *no* mode for the list of values, so the median and mode are not always the same for a set of 3 values (but if there is a mode, it will be the same as the median).
