Mortgage Credit Certificates (MCCs)

Hello everyone!!

I'm about to do my 2009 taxes and I'm curious about the MCC for the mortgage interest credit. I do not remember applying for this certificate before I purchased my home. Do I have to personally apply for the certificate, in order to receive it, or is this something that is automatically done for first time home buyers? I'm just wondering if I should be waiting to receive the certificate before I do my taxes?

Have you checked to see if you qualify? Depending on where you live your income or the purchase price of your home may disqualify you. Most people apply for this before closing on a home.
