Mortgage underwriting. Federal or state tax transcripts?

Are you generally asked to provide just federal tax transcripts or are you asked to provide federal and state?

I currently have an issue with my state and don't want anything unexpected poping up at closing or something.

I had to provide both. You might as well gather up all of that info prior to closing.

Likewise just Federal.

Not sure why they'd really need state unless you have an amazingly complicated tax return; we're just talking income verification, and that can be done just fine off the Fed since presumably we're all deducting state taxes paid anyway.
