I'm not applying for a mortgage for perhaps another year and my scores currently sit around the 710-720 range. I'm wondering is there a ballpark FICO that is required for the best possible rate? Granted there a lot of other factors to consider (down payment amount, DTI, etc etc.) but just looking for a general idea. Thanks!
In general, the best rates go to borrowers with scores of 740+. Fannie and Freddie charge extra fees for 720-739. Higher fees again for 700-719. They continue to rise even higher in tiers of 20 points below that and so on. In general.
