New Homebuyer Tax Credit Question???

So i have a question about this $8000 tax credit for homebuyers this year..... Ive heard that it is a joint credit meaning a couple would recieve the $8000 and if only one person was on the loan it would be $4000......can anyone clarify this???

Not true. One person with 100% ownership in the house will receive 8,000. Two people who jointly buy the house, married or not will each receive 4,000. Just filled out my form yesterday.

I think the $4000 reference that you heard about is for married filing separately.  In this case each person would be able to claim $4000 on their return so that it equals the $8000
