I'm in the process of purchasing my first home and my question is should I shop around for pre-approvals or just get one pre-approval and once I find the property shop around for rates?

Do companys noramally charge for pre-approvals?

You can talk to a couple of loan officers in the beginning if you want.... You never know.... The first one might be an idiot and approve you when you shouldn't be, risking your earnest money.

Most lenders do NOT charge a fee. Therefore, you have plenty of options if the one you go to asks for one.
