Preparing to buy 1st home FHA

My husband's current TU score is 621. He has 5 credit cards on his CR all with no lates, but the two that he is an authorized user on have high balances. Would it be wise to remove him as an AU on those cards? Would it improve or hurt his score?
His credit will be the only one used to qualify us for a home so I'm really trying to whip it into shape.

really hard to say..... removing maxed out cards sound good.... but if they are the oldest cards on the report, then you get dinged for avg age of accounts

From what I heard fico 08 does not figure in AU. So depends on what model they use.
